Bandung Workshop: Sustainable Solution - Navigating the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero

On July 9th, Bandung hosted the first ZDHC Workshop, a landmark event in promoting sustainability within Indonesia’s textile sector. Organized by Testex, SGS, Primatek, and Panta Rei, and titled “Sustainable Solution: Navigating the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero,” this workshop was a key part of the Global ZDHC Roadshow 2024.

The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Programme aims to eliminate hazardous chemicals from the textile and footwear value chain, promoting sustainable practices to protect consumers, workers, and the environment.

By committing to ZDHC standards, factories can connect directly with global brands, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable and responsible production. This strategic move not only enhances the environmental footprint of the industry but also strengthens Indonesia’s competitiveness and reputation in the global market.

The workshop featured a keynote address from Pak Suhendro Limantoro, representing API (the Indonesian Textile Association), who highlighted the importance of responsible business practices and the leadership role Indonesia's textile industry can play in sustainability.

Key topics covered included the ZDHC roadmap, chemical management, and wastewater management solutions. TESTEX showcased their comprehensive approach to chemical management and certifications, while Primatek and Panta Rei introduced innovative wastewater management solutions that enable factories to achieve ZDHC standards and recycle over 80% of water. SGS discussed their platform's role in chemical management and compliance tracking.

Real-world case studies were presented by Pak Suhendro Limantoro from PT Sinar Para Taruna, a leading lace manufacturer, who emphasized the importance of continuous updates to factory practices to save energy, use less water, and lower production costs.

Participants also engaged in the "ZDHC Gateway Functionality Workshop," gaining hands-on experience with the benefits of joining the ZDHC. This collaborative effort between brands, chemical formulators, manufacturers, and solutions providers is reshaping the future of the textile industry, ensuring fashion is not only stylish but also sustainable and safe for generations to come!
